the âcjantâ vilotisâ cd is a collection of traditional ladino pieces that met with the extraordinary participation of antonella ruggiero. the project was the out-come of the interest antonella ruggiero showed in ladino music in the wider sphere of research within cultural traditions that the artist had been doing for some time now.
in september 2008 an extraordinary concert was held in the auditorium theatre in trento which saw antonella ruggiero interpret some ladino and friulan songs together with destrĂ ni tarĂ f marmar cusine, loris vescovo & caia grimaz accompanied by her âwell knowenâ musicians, mark harris and ivan ciccarelli and by the artistic director roberto colombo.
testimony of this event is the cd/dvd âcjantâ vilotisâ in which we can lsten to pieces like: âcanche vael gio veideâ, âla biele steleâ, âla pastora e il lupoâ, âciant de lâaisciudaâ, âa no ând è mai stade ploeâ, âlebedikâ, âla legna verdeâ in the unpublished interpretation of antonella ruggiero, who offers these songs respecting the traditional values but enriching them even further by her extraordinary voice.
to mention furthermore, âfior di tombaâ, a piece that presents unique analogies with the partisan resistance song âbella ciaoâ from which the latter derive and âil viaggio (i viac)â a song in antonella ruggieroâs repertoire, here it is offered in an unpublished ladino version.
the pieces present in âcjantâ vilotisâ are part of the âraccolta gartnerâ dating back to the period that goes from 1904 till 1915.
this new lap in antonella ruggieroâs artistic journey is a further example of the artistâs desire to research in the patrimony of the folk and traditional music, for the purpose of letting the public hear small forgotten and unknown treasures. a âchallenge accepted with enthusiasm and convictionâ, as fabio chioccetti remembers in the presentation of the cd/dvd manager of âistitut cultural ladinâ
